type='text'>Is there morality in animal kingdom?

I've been down. So down... Wandering around clueless, puzzling.. What to do? Should I take my last will? Should I grab my backpack and say goodbye to the people I love and leave to the bloodhound world? No, I do not want to be outrageous. Can someone out there help my people? My country is in chaos. My people are dying more and more everyday. This is torturing me. My country is taken over by evil-minded men. They are everywhere, committing the grossest deeds. The Vietnamese government are killing my people.... Genocide #2 has just begun, the "land grabbing's revolution."

Khmer rouge trial is the last dream to bring justice for Cambodian but having learned that the trial have been handled by the Khmer rouge (the CPP), there's no hope, there will be no justice. It so sick...it's useless... helpless. What is the trial for if the killers are holding the case. They are controlling the mass media, they are holding the documents. They are ready to stand at the court to prove that they are right. War, greeds, power monger, corruption, the bloodhounds best friend. When will they stop? Our food, culture and history have been abandoned by the invaders. Our books were rewritten according to their desire. Our history were taught in such a way that is NOT Cambodian, nothing but genocide. As they glorify their history, Cambodia’s beauty became darkest of the darkest of all. They teach their children about their pride and we were told from their books to hate ourselves. It seems that our richness, our luxury, our golden land have been their sources of evil, endless invasion still continue. Genocide is still going on in Cambodia, not a loud bombing, but this time a silent and deadly one. Land grabbing from the local people is a trend in ‘new era Cambodia” and land encroachment still going on from east and west. Such tragic in our blood. They have gone very far annihilating Cambodia. Enjoy to your fullest, have her(Cambodia) as the way you want, draw all your mighty greeds, but don’t forget that you must pay great price in the end. If not now, children of Cambodia and good friends of Cambodia will stand and fight for her right, if not today, it will be tomorrow. “You can run but you can’t hide.”

My wish

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_WIo_Dninzbs/R0Eley75fmI/AAAAAAAAAJc/4kD2CXg4SY0/s320/jayavaramanVII.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5134426261178383970" />
To all Cambodian children and friends of Cambodia. On June 04 1949, just before their complete withdrawal from Indochina which included Cambodia, Lao and Vietnam for more than a hundred years; the French government illegally gave the lower part of Cambodia’s land (Kampuchea Krom) to Vietnam.

Shortly thereafter the Vietnamese government took over all Kampuchea Krom land including our homes. They renamed our land to Vietnamese names. All the streets and anything that had a Khmer name were changed to Vietnamese.

They forced all Khmer in Kampuchea Krom to change or convert their Khmer name to Vietnamese. If we can’t convert our Khmer name to Vietnamese then we must choose one of these Vietnamese last names assigned for us, and it didn’t matter if we were blood relatives or not. For example, Khmer Krom from Khleang (Soc Trang),Trapeang ( Tra Vinh), Pov Lieu (Bac Lieu) and Tirk Khmao ( Ca Mau) provinces had their last names changed to either Son,Thach or Kim. Khmer Krom from Karmourn Sor (Kien Giang), Prek Reussey (Can Tho), Long Ho (Vinh Long) and Mott Chrouk (Chau Doc) last names were changed to Danh, Chau or Ly. The same was ordered for Khmer Krom from other provinces. Those Vietnamese last names were for them to easily identify Khmer Krom, and which province we came from.

Vietnam also shut down all Khmer public schools. Any Khmer Krom wanting an education must go to a Vietnamese school. It was difficult adjusting to sudden language changes for the majority of Khmer Krom students who spoke only Khmer. At first, there were large groups Khmer Krom students enrolled in Vietnamese schools, but only a handful hung on, the majority being bi-lingual. The reasons many Khmer Krom students dropped out was because their parents were too poor to buy school supplies and school uniforms, didn't speak Vietnamese, also because they were not able to cope with the unfair treatment, mental and physical abuse from Vietnamese teachers and Vietnamese students. Instead of helping our students over come language barriers, and treating all students equally, many Vietnamese teachers made the situation worse and unbearable for our students to continue their studies. It did not matter how well Khmer Krom students studied it was never good enough. They often insulted the students “ tu.i ba^y ngu ho*n bo`” (you people are dumber than a cow.)

Struggling to preserve our Khmer language on our land, most Khmer Krom parents would send the children, mostly boys, to local temples for study Khmer language from Buddhist monks. The boys usually stayed at the local temple for several months up to years.

June 1949, after the Vietnamese government shut down Khmer schools, they drove Khmer Krom out of homes and businesses from big cities (such as Prey Norko (now know as Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City), to undeveloped land in the countryside. Once our Khmer Krom people moved out the cities, Vietnamese people moved in. Vietnamese took over our homes; our businesses, while our people struggled to survive, starting all over, with only clothes on back and empty hands. During that time, a large group of Khmer Krom villagers fled to Cambodia, hoping for peaceful life on the upper part of our land.

Meanwhile South Vietnamese drafted young Khmer Krom men into military services to fight the North Vietnamese. American’s requested many Khmer Krom soldiers to transfer in their Special Force because not only were Khmer Krom men much taller and stronger than Vietnamese men, Khmer Krom men were also known for being brave warriors, trustworthy and honest. Many Khmer Krom men fought for the American and South Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. Many Khmer Krom lives were lost on our land. Many unsung heroes died silent in Kampuchea Krom. Till today, no sympathy, no monument, no special treatment, and no word ever mention from either American or South Vietnamese that many Khmer Krom soldiers has fought and died for our land in Vietnam War.

On April 1975, in Kampuchea Krom the North Vietnamese took over South Vietnam. Vietnamese communists did the same to Khmer Krom; they forced Khmer Krom to “relocated”, abandon homes and businesses, again. “Move or die!” They ordered. Again, our people packed up, again we left our homes, again we abandoned our businesses so the Vietnamese communists officials and their families could move in, took over our properties, our land that we work so hard over pass twenty years to rebuilt. Many Khmer Krom who used to work with South Vietnamese were captured and imprisoned. Some Khmer Krom were lucky to be alive, free to walk out prison after many years in re-education camp, but many Khmer Krom died in prison from torture, illness and hunger. Some Khmer Krom are still missing since captured by Vietnamese communists back in 1975.

Ironically, on April 1975, in Cambodia, our Khmer Krom people life turned from bad to worst when Khmer Rouge show up. Khmer Rouge also evicted everyone out of the cities, just like Vietnamese government did to Khmer Krom on our land. When Khmer Rouge murdered millions of innocents people, amongst the deaths were mostly Khmer and Khmer Krom.

When Vietnam shut down all Khmer public schools on June 1949 they destroyed all Khmer textbooks in Kampuchea Krom.
When Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia on April 1975, before murders millions Khmer/Khmer Krom, they also destroyed all Khmer textbooks. As result our real Khmer history has been deliberately erased. Not only that the Vietnamese don’t like to tell the world, especially the younger Khmer/Khmer Krom generations, that South Vietnam was Kampuchea Krom, but most newer Khmer history books also failed to mention how Cambodia lost our Kampuchea Krom land to Vietnam on 6-4-1949.

1978, when Vietnamese invaded Cambodia, still fear of Khmer Rouge, many Khmer Krom villagers tried to return to Kampuchea Krom, but were shot by Vietnamese communist soldiers. Thousands of innocent Khmer Krom children and women died on our land. Vietnamese communists denied murdering these innocent Khmer Krom villagers and they blamed it on the Khmer Rouge.

Seeing that return to Kampuchea Krom was too risky, some Khmer Krom have no other choice but trying to build another new life on our upper land, Cambodia. Until, recently some top Cambodian officials decided that Khmer Krom do not have the right to be in Cambodia but real Vietnamese do. They welcome millions Vietnamese come and live freely on our upper land but not Khmer Krom. They said Khmer Krom belong to Kampuchea Krom and all Khmer people in Kampuchea Krom should be considered as Vietnamese, and deported back to South Vietnam. Those sent back went straight to prison and some were never heard from, or seen again.

No word could describe the Khmer Krom pain when seeing people from other countries could get permission to build private schools, homes or businesses on our land, but the rightful landowners, Khmer Krom, we couldn’t even get permission to build a single Khmer public school on our land. More than fifty years went by, still, there is no Khmer public school on Kampuchea Krom since 1949 when Vietnam shut down all Khmer schools.

However, if you go to Cambodia, you will see many Vietnamese businesses, schools and even Vietnamese hospital in Cambodia for millions of Vietnamese who came and stay, since Vietnam invaded Cambodia in 1978. You will see many Khmer children couldn’t afford to go to school, many poor Khmer children begging on the streets or scavengers on dump sites struggling to survive. Along the rivers there are so many Khmer people living on boats, dreaming for a piece of our land to call home.

For millions Khmer people in Kampuchea Krom daily life is struggling for survive. Many Khmer Krom live under plastic tents with no windows, doors, running water or electric, many poor Khmer Krom families wonder when the Vietnamese government is going to order them to move again. Wondering when the oppression and hardship will end, a good life seems only to come in dreams; a dream that some day, the Khmer Krom people will be free to live peacefully on our land.

Today, the world is getting to know more about us. Buddha said, “Nothing could be hidden from the truth.” So it is up to you, my Khmer/ Khmer Krom brothers and sisters to learn more of our real history and tell the world the truth that these were our land.

source:http://www.khmerkromrecipes.com

Kim Trang (Ieng Sary) arrested for KR Trial

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_WIo_Dninzbs/RzzgTy75fiI/AAAAAAAAAI8/TU0BZXF83Fs/s320/Iengsary.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5133224305990663714" />
Kim Trang aka Ieng Sary, one of the Vietnamese behind the killing field.
Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Ieng Sary, the former Khmer Rouge foreign minister taken into custody yesterday by Cambodia's genocide tribunal, was part of the communist group's inner circle, rising to power alongside its notorious leader Pol Pot.
But in the 1990s, when the Khmer Rouge was no longer in power, he defected with a large coterie of followers, effectively setting the stage for the group's collapse by the end of the decade.

His change of heart earned him a limited amnesty but left open the question of how much responsibility he bore for the atrocities the Khmer Rouge regime committed in the late 1970s, when 1.7 million Cambodians died of starvation, disease, overwork and execution.

As deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Ieng Sary was one of a few key decision makers in the central committee.

He has long been accused of personally persuading several diplomats and intellectuals based overseas to return to Cambodia to join the revolution after the Khmer Rouge overthrew a pro- American government in 1975. The returnees were arrested and put in reeducation camps, and most were later executed.

Ieng Sary, born as Kim Trang on January 1, 1930 - the date is sometimes disputed - in a former Cambodian province that is now part of southern Vietnam, received a government scholarship in the 1950s to study in France.

source: http://www.thestandard.com.hk/news_detail.asp?we_cat=9&art_id=56729&sid=16258749&con_type=1&d_str=20071113&fc=2

Due to copyright

My apology to those who visited my website earlier, due to copyrigt, I had deleted all the international song such as X-Japan...etc. Since I couldn't share their songs with you, I would like to share the youtube video from someone who uploaded it. All this supports the assumption that analysis of relations between Hanoi and the Khmer Rouge is not only a historical problem. There is still a political component, which encumbers its objective study. This is the same Vietnamese communist regime responsible for the murder of more than 1 million Vietnamese.

Although Jefferson's immortal words may be in Vietnam's Declaration of Independence, there they are but hollow words. Vietnam tolerates no challenges to its communist one-party rule. Extrajudicial killings continue, and in a recent spate of repression, "the worst in 20 years," the regime locked up and sent to prison more than 20 religious freedom, democracy and human-rights activists, while tightening its grip on the media and enforcing strict Internet restrictions.

Religious leaders and followers across the spectrum, Buddhists, Christians and believers of other faiths are continually harassed and arrested. More than 350 Christian Montagnard political prisoners remain incarcerated.

To Jefferson, being a president meant becoming so through free and fair elections by the populace, not by appointment as one by the Communist Party comprised of only 4 percent of Vietnam's population as Mr. Triet was. One U.S. congressman said, "Since Triet was not elected in a free election, he shouldn't be called president. ... Rather he is more comparable to a godfather ... of a repressive and deadly regime."

In his article, Mr. Triet wrote, "Bilateral ties are built on the two countries' common interests and concerns: commerce, culture, science and technology, education, regional peace and stability, the fight against terrorism." However, the Vietnamese communist regime's terrorism against its own people is not in the United States' "common interests," and it has done little to stop the trafficking in women and children for prostitution.

At their White House meeting on June 22, President Bush told Mr. Triet, "In order for relations to grow deeper, it's important for our friends to have a strong commitment to human rights and freedom and democracy." Mr. Triet rebuked Mr. Bush afterward in an AP interview saying his country does not need to improve its human-rights record. "It's not a question of improving or not. ... Vietnam has its own legal framework, and those who violate the law will be handled." Mr. Triet's so-called lawbreakers include, but are not limited to, religious leaders and adherents of all faiths, human rights and democracy advocates, labor lawyers, and ethnic minorities.

Rather than to Jeffersonian principles, Mr. Triet adheres to Joseph Goebbels' "Big Lie" postulate — people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it often enough people will sooner or later believe it

The Vietnamese regime's creator was not God as Jefferson wrote, but Ho Chi Minh. Far from being Jeffersonian, Mr. Triet and his repressive band do not practice what they preach in their Declaration of Independence.

Rather than "all men are created equal, Triet's regime is closer to George Orwell's satirical allegories of communism in "Animal Farm" where some are more equal than others.
_________________________________________________
MIKE BENGE, An advocate for human rights and religious freedom in South East Asia.

simply Khmer

A foreigner AIMed and asked me:

(guy) Hello
(me) Hello sir
(guy) Where are you from?
(me) Kampuchea
(guy) Cambodia?
(me) yes
(guy) Are you Khmer rouge?
(me) No sir, I am Khmer
(guy) Not rouge?
(me) Simply KHMER. How to caramelized the sauce: heat the pot with oil, add in chopped garlic, then sugar. After the sugar turn dark brown, add some salt, black pepper and chicken bouillon powder. Stir the ingredient for a few minutes then add boiled water into the pot.DO NOT put too much salt, sugar or sauces at the beginning, it gets very salty as you boil longer. Adjust the flavor near the end.

Wash the bitter melon well then cut into half, remove all the seed and ready to stuff the meat in.*Note* after stuffing the ground pork in the bitter melon, fry the surface so that the meat won't come off while boiling in the sauce. Put the fried bitter melon into the caramelized sauce and let it cook for about 50 minutes or less in medium high heat. Check it occasionally while boiling, the sauce gets thick and burn the bottom of the pot. Gently stir it as needed. Right before turning off the heat(last boil) toss in a table spoon of fish sauce and oyster sauce(optional).

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_WIo_Dninzbs/RuoM6luWC1I/AAAAAAAAAFU/6cJt3xeYNmQ/s320/KhmerFood.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5109910927903689554" />

pong`thea jien dak mreah

From left to right in circle:
Cherry tomatoes, boiled spinach, sliced pear, grilled cod and pickled cucumber. That was the ONLY cartoon book which somehow got it's way to the refugees camp(books and any form of documents had to be burned). I was very fascinated with the story. The book was ripped and missing pages. I had to imagine the missing lines. We shared the torn apart book passing around from kids to kids. Now, I can't quite recall the story, I think it's about Jey being the number one cock fighter.

After years of devastation, Cambodian artists are gathering to revive the Khmer comics. To live together in a borderless international community, the people of each country must have a sense of belonging to their own nation and have a clear sense of national identity. The concept that “culture = brand” at the national level differentiates one country from the other nations in the global community and strengthens that country’s competitive spirit. A brand’s uniqueness is amorphous. This means that the value of a brand is created through the image people have of that brand in their minds.
In the case of Japan, I think that the “image people have of a brand in their minds” is an aspect of the Japanese philosophy of “Shu-Ha-Ri” which I came to know from kendo, I started during my thirteen-year stay in New York. In brief, “Shu-Ha-Ri” stands for the three stages of skill mastery: the Chinese character Shu , Ha , and Ri . In “Shu,” you follow the examples given and master them completely. At the “Ha” level, you add your own creative touch to what you have learned and make the techniques and skills your own. At the stage of “Ri,” you take what you have learned even further. In Japan, “Shu” is the heart of knowledge transmission, which is the basis for the creation of culture, in other words, the origin of education. Through “Shu” that has been passed down over the generations through intentional effort, the basics have been valued and the traditional mindset and atmosphere of Japan have been valued. “Brand Japan” which is Japan’s pride and glory is precisely this “Shu” from “Shu-Ha-Ri.”

Khmer Mystery - Funan (The Lost City) part 9

Although Thai and Vietnam attempt to anihilate Cambodia history, our heritage sites and Angkor wat proudly stand to represent the Khmers. There are too many silent letters that we don't pronounce but have to write it. It took me quite some times to finish this one paragraph. Perhaps, if I had formal Khmer education, it would be easier. I only had three weeks of learning Khmer alphabets when I was a little girl. Due to war, I was unable to continue my study but with the love of my mother tongue, I've been keeping it up studying off and on at home by myself from Huffman-English-Khmer dictionary. I looked up any english word and tried to read it Khmer translation. Karaoke really helped me reading and sounding out the words. I also tried to read anything in Khmer. It took me 15 years to be able to read up to college level, now it's not a foreign language for me anymore. My next step is to keep on writing.

koun Kampuchea throv kann dai kneah ruom kom`nit kaay
muay chom`hien chean chpuos tov mok douy kdei songkhem
seksah rean`sote mok reej nhor`nhem yerng khom tho`su min naay chet lery
throv khom sloat`bote neng kah seksah tnak tum toch kdei khet khom smaradei vek`vern rean`sote veleah min jam yerng the` kom nov thom`nay throv vi`neas derm bei tngai sa`ek.

BaanChav (Cambodian Crepe)

I made Cambodian Crepe which is called Baan Chav or Khmer Krom(south Cambodia) call it "num chak menh" in English meaning "Pot-Fried Cake". Baan Chav is made of rice flour. L`miet (turmeric) is added to make the rice flour yellow, it's not egg yolk. It is stuffed with ground chicken or pork, shrimp and bean sprout. Baan chav is eaten with vegetable wrapping and dip with the Khmer sweet and sour sauce. Besides fish and poultry, most Cambodian are vegetable eater close to vegetarian, so this particular dish makes us go crazy with the vegetable. It's the combination of the sauce and all the vegies that harmonize everything. This is a wonderful way to intake fresh vitamin and it contains very little fat.

Parade 2006

This year is the second year of Khmer New Year parade on Anaheim street. I went to see it this afternoon in Long Beach. It started from 10:30, I got there late, so I missed the best part of the show such as Chayum, classical dance and Angkor wat sculpture. The parking wasn't so bad as I expected. Surprisingly, the road was well paved and clean. Lots of securities and police guarding. Very nice, finally the mayor of the city got to listen to Cambodian community. There were many attemps by Cambodian people requesting for the improvement of the city many years ago but the mayor of Long Beach city paid no mind to these residential health, the roads were cracked and bumpy, dirty, many homeless and trashes were on the road. Cambodian deserve a clean place and they are willing to improve if the government help. This year is a big improvement. I hope the city mayor will continue to help funding.

This is Lmok. type='text'>Japanese Sandwich

Besides Cambodian food, I also love trying out international food. For my lunch today, I made Japanese sandwich. Japanese sandwich uses almost the same material as western sandwich; tomato, lettuce, and ham. To distinguish the flavor from western, Japanese uses cucumber and Kewpie mayonnaise which has more nutty taste and somewhat similar to dijon but not sour. The bread texture is amazingly good. It is soft and thick, it's so good that you can just eat many pieces without putting any butter.

Ka Teav Tirk (Cambodian noodle soup)

It is very cold today, all I could think of is something warm. So, I decided to make soup. I ate so much already, three bowls for lunch and perhaps I am going to have a few more bowls for dinner. See the thing with ka teav tirk is that it doesn't stay in the stomach so long. I get hungry easily.

Picture above is Cambodian noodle soup. It is called Ka Teav Tirk. The white noodle is made of rice. We serve with many topping as you can see in the foto.
Herbs:
-ji van suy(celantro)
-ji pala (Khmer mint)
-ji krohom (Khmer red basil)

Meat topping:
-thinly sliced beef
-shrimp
-beef and pork ball

Sauce for meat dipping:
-hot chilli
-hoisin sauce
To bring the soup even tastier, we toss in some fried shallots, pepper, lemon and bean sprout.

Khmer Sandwich (nom pang sach)

Making Khmer sandwich can be simple and very nutritious. There are different kinds of stuffing:
-BBQ chicken
-BBQ beef
-BBQ pork
-Ham
*Point* marinade whichever meat you prefer for your sandwich for about five minutes.Preheat the frying pan with oil on medium-high heat. Then FRY it with the COVER ON until brown. Grilling gives better taste on the meat but it consumes time and extra wash, so don't bother. Keep it simple.
To make each of these sandwiches you need celantro, green onion, vegetable salad(carrot, papaya, white raddish), mayonaise and BAGUETTE. When finish stuffing the bread, toss in a few drops of hot chilli on top of the sandwich. Go easy on chilli! Picture below is the ingredient for BBQ chicken which I made today for lunch.

Bai Srak(Lunch Box)

Bai Srak is lunch box for work.
