Parade 2006

This year is the second year of Khmer New Year parade on Anaheim street. I went to see it this afternoon in Long Beach. It started from 10:30, I got there late, so I missed the best part of the show such as Chayum, classical dance and Angkor wat sculpture. The parking wasn't so bad as I expected. Surprisingly, the road was well paved and clean. Lots of securities and police guarding. Very nice, finally the mayor of the city got to listen to Cambodian community. There were many attemps by Cambodian people requesting for the improvement of the city many years ago but the mayor of Long Beach city paid no mind to these residential health, the roads were cracked and bumpy, dirty, many homeless and trashes were on the road. Cambodian deserve a clean place and they are willing to improve if the government help. This year is a big improvement. I hope the city mayor will continue to help funding.

This is Lmok. Lmok is three wheels bike with paddler in the front and passengers in the back. It can carries up to 5 passengers. Lmok is the first Cambodian bike to be shipped to US for the Khmer parade.

The flag with blue, yellow and red color represents Cambodia below or Southern Cambodia aka Khmer Krom or Kampuchea Krom. These are true blood Cambodian people whose ancestors were the great Angkorwat builders but sadly their land was confiscated by Vietcong. South Cambodia (Khmer Krom) was stolen by the French and illegally transferred toVietnam and became South Vietnam on June 1949. There about 10 million Cambodian living in "south Vietnam today" under the Vietnamese authority. Their culture, language and religious practice were forbidden after Vietnamese took over south Cambodia. Recently, Khmer Krom long long chronic abusive pain is starting to be heard by the world after numerous report to UN. Now, they are a member of UNPO.Under the UNPO, they are working very hard to regain their human right and ancestrial land. Best wish to Khmer Krom. May the truth and your suffering be heard louder! www.Khmerkrom.net

Cyclo is a three wheels bike with paddler
in the back. Cyclo carries only one passenger. This is also the
first time to import Cambodian Cyclo to the United States.

  • Beautiful pictures! I'm glad that Cambodian people came together and did something like this. This will be good for boosting the community. I hope this parade will be bigger and bigger year after year.

  • Thank you for your kind comments about Khmer Krom. It's admiral that we all unit. We need some big parade here in Australia too!

  • Ms.Sothi,
    You're welcome.
Khmer Krom are very sweet, intelligent and strong people. we love them. I hope one day the Vietnamese government will return your home and freedom to live in your ancestrial land. And one day, we will be united again.

About the parade, contact the Khmer community in your area and give them some idea. You be the first one, try it. The parade doesn't have to be big. Have to start from somewhere.

    Good luck dear!
