Land of Cambodia

Cambodia used to be the jewel and was once known as Khmer Empire of Southeast Asia before Thailand, Laos and Vietnam invasion. Thai were Chinese from Nanchoa province which is known as Tai. They invaded west part of Cambodia and became a country in 1350(-3?). Since then,Thais adopted Khmer tradition, food, and language from the 13th century. Laos and Vietnamese people were ethnic minorities of southern China. Vietnam aka Annam gradually pushed downward and illegally took Cambodian ancestrial territory(Khmer Krom) in June 1949 and became what is known as South Vietnam today.

Yellow highlight indicates Cambodia's ancestrial land.

This is Cambodia in 1400 A.D.
Our ancestrial land size reduced after
being sacked by Chinese of
southern China; Tai(Thai-Siam)
Laos(Lan Xang or Lan Chang) and Annam(Vietnam).

Revenge of Khmer King

"Mess with ancient Khmer Kings, and you're history" Thaksin is warned

Bayon bas-relief showing Cambodian army marching to the battle field. Khmer temples are filled with stone carving such as the one shown above. Khmer temples have been ransacked by successive invading Thai armies, some of these temples are currently located in Thailand, on lands once owned by Cambodia. (Photo: www.angkor-ruins.com)

Revenge of the Khmer Kings

The Associated Press
Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, facing the worst political crisis of his career, is now employing magic to ward off bad luck that a critic said was being caused by ancient Cambodian kings.

Thaksin received a gift on Tuesday in Thailand's Surin province: a magical elephant prod to help him ward off bad luck.

"I will use this prod, along with spells and talismans, to control the fierce opponents who are trying to oust me," Thaksin said.

Danai Anantayo, vice president of Law Society of Thailand, told a large anti-Thaksin rally in Bangkok Tuesday that Thaksin had been cursed for holding a Cabinet meeting at a sacred Khmer temple in Surin.

The ancient Cambodian kings whose spirits guard the temple had put the curse on the prime minister, he said.

Asked about the alleged curse of the Cambodian kings, Cambodian government spokesman and Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith laughed. "You know the Thais have long thought of Cambodians as skilled magicians," he said.

Japanese Sandwich

Besides Cambodian food, I also love trying out international food. For my lunch today, I made Japanese sandwich. Japanese sandwich uses almost the same material as western sandwich; tomato, lettuce, and ham. To distinguish the flavor from western, Japanese uses cucumber and Kewpie mayonnaise which has more nutty taste and somewhat similar to dijon but not sour. The bread texture is amazingly good. It is soft and thick, it's so good that you can just eat many pieces without putting any butter.

Ka Teav Tirk (Cambodian noodle soup)

It is very cold today, all I could think of is something warm. So, I decided to make soup. I ate so much already, three bowls for lunch and perhaps I am going to have a few more bowls for dinner. See the thing with ka teav tirk is that it doesn't stay in the stomach so long. I get hungry easily.

Picture above is Cambodian noodle soup. It is called Ka Teav Tirk. The white noodle is made of rice. We serve with many topping as you can see in the foto.
Herbs:
-ji van suy(celantro)
-ji pala (Khmer mint)
-ji krohom (Khmer red basil)

Meat topping:
-thinly sliced beef
-shrimp
-beef and pork ball

Sauce for meat dipping:
-hot chilli
-hoisin sauce
To bring the soup even tastier, we toss in some fried shallots, pepper, lemon and bean sprout.

Khmer Sandwich (nom pang sach)

Making Khmer sandwich can be simple and very nutritious. There are different kinds of stuffing:
-BBQ chicken
-BBQ beef
-BBQ pork
-Ham
*Point* marinade whichever meat you prefer for your sandwich for about five minutes.Preheat the frying pan with oil on medium-high heat. Then FRY it with the COVER ON until brown. Grilling gives better taste on the meat but it consumes time and extra wash, so don't bother. Keep it simple.
To make each of these sandwiches you need celantro, green onion, vegetable salad(carrot, papaya, white raddish), mayonaise and BAGUETTE. When finish stuffing the bread, toss in a few drops of hot chilli on top of the sandwich. Go easy on chilli! Picture below is the ingredient for BBQ chicken which I made today for lunch.
